Breaking Free

BREAKING FREE is a part of the photo and installation project „Dichotomie“.

It is a self-study and analysis about the diversity, the complexity and the different personalities that a human being can have.

The project works on different levels and uses different tools and mediums to visualize the inner world and make the unseen seen.

Often we do not choose the skin we are born in

We do not choose what happens to us and how it happens

Our softness transforms as we harden on

From the inside out

And layer by layer we change

We hide

We protect ourselves

Our self build cocoon can help us develop

But it can also slow us down

It is our comfort zone and is the border between our world and the outer world

Some people decide to stay hidden and protected

In the warmth of their own safety

Others decide to grow

And when the time is right they break free and let go of the past

And fly towards the sun of their future

And then there are the ones who turned into stone

Who froze and fell into a long lasting sleep that became their new reality

Often they can not choose to wake up by themselves

They might not even know that they are dreaming

Sleep walking through the outer world

Coexisting in different lives

Who will set them free?

Only with time we know which cocoon was chosen for us

Only with time we can tell who we became

What transformation we went through and who we turned into

Some things can be changed and others are irreversible

We look back and all we see are the broken pieces of our sell that we left behind
